Akhil Akkineni‘s Agent ended up as a disaster at the box office. The movie came up with good hype but fizzed out right after the talk came out of the US Premieres. The weekend holidays, and the May Day holiday did not help too.
There have been a lot of discussions about what went wrong with Agent and what is going wrong with Akhil.
While there are many discussions, the role of Akkineni fans in this failure can not be ignored.
NTR and ANR were regarded as the Greats of their generation. Nagarjuna along with Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, and Venkatesh was regarded as the Top four of the industry during their prime.
But in the last few years, Nagarjuna’s career was not going on the expected lines with uninteresting combinations and flops. Naga Chaitanya who entered the industry as his heir could not satisfy fans much.
Akhil is handsome among this generation’s heroes and also has Cricket popularity before coming to the industry.
Fans pinned high hopes on Akhil to carry the legacy forward. But the actor who is still in his 20s could not bear the pressure.
His first film, Akhil – The Power of Jua is an indication of how he wanted to attempt a big film just because of that pressure. Akhil tried soft films after that but the results were not encouraging.
The decision of the Agent was again due to the pressure of fans. But the fact remains that Akhil is too young to carry such a character. He has to build a ‘believability factor’ in the audience slowly and steadily before attempting such big films.
He could build a six-pack with hard work but that image is not easily gettable. That was also a problem with Agent.
He has to bank on a director like Surender Reddy for that kind of script just because everyone is expecting an action film or a star film from him.
With this failure, he will be more confused about what to do next.
Action films are not everybody’s cup of tea. NTR and Ram Charan got such films in the initial part of their careers thanks to good directors like Vinayak and Rajamouli.
There is no rule that Akhil can be so lucky. There are also stars who molded their career step by step. Probably, that is what is destined for Akhil.
Also, no one can become a star all of a sudden because they are star kids. Akkineni fans should give Akhil the room and time to discover his strength. Fans should remember failures will follow if he is being chased constantly.
