India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day today, and social media is filled with patriotic messages from celebrities. From Akshay Kumar, Yash to Kangana Ranaut, several stars shared their wishes with fans.
Allu Arjun also reportedly joined the celebrations with a special post. However, his Independence Day message quickly turned into an unwanted controversy. The actor reportedly deleted the post after facing backlash over the image of the Indian national flag used in it.
The issue was simple but sensitive. The flag shown in the post allegedly did not have the Ashoka Chakra. While the intention was clearly to wish everyone on Independence Day, the visual mistake immediately became the focus, forcing the post to be removed.
It also raises a familiar question about celebrity social media accounts. Many posts appearing on a star’s handle are often prepared and uploaded by their social media teams rather than being personally created by the actors. That makes such mistakes even more avoidable.
When it comes to national symbols, especially the Indian flag, there is very little room for carelessness. A social media team handling a star hero’s account needs to check every detail before publishing such a post.
On social media, a small error can become a massive controversy within minutes, especially when nationalism is involved. What could simply be an unintentional oversight can quickly turn into some people even jumping straight to calling a celebrity anti-national.
For celebrities, there is almost no margin for error anymore. Allu Arjun has already faced his share of controversies in recent years, so his team should know how unforgiving social media can be.
In this case, deleting the post was probably the simplest way to stop the controversy from growing further.
