Attacks on Vanga Continue: “Animal Is Caricature”

Sandeep Reddy Vanga

Despite ‘Animal’ releasing eight months ago, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is still under fire.

In a recent interview, the legendary writer Javed Akhtar once again targeted Animal. He discussed the ‘angry young man’ trope in films, arguing that when irrational anger is not focused on specific issues, it risks turning the character into a caricature. He used the character of Ranbir in ‘Animal’ as an example of this trend.

Vikrant Massey’s film ‘12th Fail,’ a sleeper hit, featured real-life UPSC professor Vikas Divyakirti playing himself. Divyakirti recently during an interview with ANI shared his disappointment with Ranbir Kapoor’s film, Animal.

While he praised Ranbir’s acting talent, he expressed sadness about the film, saying its purpose and impact were unclear to him.

He particularly expressed concern over the film’s vulgarity and its potential influence on societal attitudes.

It’s becoming tedious to see the ongoing criticism of Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Ideally, Vanga should ignore these remarks and not give them any more attention.

Despite ‘Animal’ grossing over Rs 900 crore and becoming one of the top films of the year, it continues to face criticism for its portrayal of toxic masculinity.
