Box Office: Spy vs Samajavaragamana

SPY SamajavaragamanaAP – Telangana:

This week, two films of entirely different genres, Spy and Samajavaragamana, were released in theaters. While Spy caters to action lovers, Samajavaragamana targets youth and families.

Spy had a good opening for Nikhil, but the reviews and public talk were mixed. Nonetheless, the film performed well on the first day and today, although not as great, there is an indication that it will pick up tomorrow (Saturday).

Samajavaragamana tells a whole different story. The film had early premieres to generate buzz and opened to positive reviews everywhere. However, the first day did not see the expected big jump, and the same goes for today. Tomorrow is crucial for Samajavaragamana, and there is a chance the film can perform better to sustain its run on Sunday.

The only surprising aspect is that the level of positivity reflected in the early reviews is yet to come out. If it manages to attract a good number of audiences tomorrow, it will indicate stability in the weekdays before new releases hit the theatres next week.

Saturday will provide a clearer picture of the box-office hold for these new releases.

North America:

In terms of the North America box office performance so far, ‘Spy’ has had a decent run, grossing $220,887. Nikhil has certainly gained momentum in these overseas markets, but he needs to deliver good content to further expand his reach.

On the other hand, Samajavaragamana had a relatively slow start on its premiere day but picked up on day-1, resulting in a total gross of $98,994.

Both films are expected to increase in ticket sales as the four-day long weekend begins in the U.S. tomorrow.
