Dil Raju, one of Tollywood’s top-most influential producers, has always had an eye on Bollywood. For years, he wanted to prove his mark in the Hindi industry as well. He made multiple attempts, but unfortunately, those plans did not work. Even after facing setbacks, he hasn’t stepped back. Instead, he is now preparing for another massive attempt. This time, his approach is completely different. Instead of choosing content driven cinema, he is aiming at what appeals to the larger North Indian audience.
Previously, Dil Raju tried serious and meaningful remakes like Jersey and HIT. Both films were appreciated in Telugu, but both failed badly at the Hindi box office. Those massive losses forced him to rethink his strategy. He realized that Bollywood’s mass audience responds more to commercial entertainers like Pushpa and KGF rather than subtle storytelling. That clarity shaped his new direction.
The latest update is that he is remaking this year’s blockbuster Sankranthiki Vastunnam, which collected around Rs. 300 crores worldwide. For the Hindi version, he has reportedly locked Akshay Kumar as the lead. Anees Bazmee, who has a knack for making commercial comedy action entertainers, will direct the film. With this combination, Dil Raju is aiming for a wider theatrical reach and a strong comeback in Bollywood.
However, there is a section who feels it is tough to remake a film like Sankranthiki Vastunnam. It will be a huge challenge to repeat the same madness and conviction of Anil Ravipudi in Hindi.
Earlier, Dil Raju’s Hindi films were made as joint ventures with other producers. But this time, Dil Raju wants full control. He is handling the production personally and treating it as a prestigious project. This project is not only important for Dil Raju. It is equally crucial for Akshay Kumar, who is going through a long phase of back-to-back flops. A clean commercial blockbuster from this combination could revive careers and change the momentum for both.
Alongside this, Dil Raju is lining up more Bollywood commercial projects. Talks are ongoing with Tiger Shroff for an action entertainer, and Meenakshi Chaudhary is likely to play the female lead. Discussions with Salman Khan and Aamir Khan are also underway, but nothing has been confirmed.
Now the big question is simple. Will this new strategy finally give Dil Raju the Bollywood breakthrough he has been chasing, or will it become another expensive lesson?
