Dil Raju is reportedly looking to bring Ramayana to the Telugu States. The producer-distributor is said to be in talks for the theatrical rights of the much-awaited film, with the deal being discussed at around Rs 105 crore.
What makes this deal interesting is the film’s casting. Ranbir Kapoor is playing Lord Rama, while Yash will be seen as Ravana. The project is being mounted on a massive scale and is expected to target audiences across the country.
For the Telugu market, however, the film has another advantage. The Ramayana story is already familiar to Telugu audiences, so the film does not have to depend entirely on the appeal of a Hindi star. The combination of a known story, big production scale and popular actors could give it a strong theatrical pull.
A Rs 105 crore price tag would still be a sizeable commitment for the Telugu States. The film will need to generate strong theatrical business across both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to make the investment worthwhile.
The deal has not been officially announced yet. If Dil Raju manages to secure the rights, Ramayana could become one of the biggest non-Telugu films to enter the Telugu theatrical market.
