The Indian theatrical distribution landscape is entering one of its most competitive phases, with major studios and distribution houses preparing to back some of the biggest films expected in 2026 and 2027.
Yash Raj Films continues to handle the distribution of its own projects while also taking on major external ventures. Along with distributing upcoming films like Varun Dhawan’s horror film and Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s next project, YRF will also manage the international distribution of Shah Rukh Khan’s King, directed by Siddharth Anand.
Pen Marudhar has secured several major projects for theatrical release across India. The company will distribute King domestically along with Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2, Kareena Kapoor’s Daayra and Alia Bhatt and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Tumbbad 2. The company is also reportedly competing for the distribution deal of Love & War in partnership discussions with Dharma Productions.
Dharma, on the other hand, has made one of the biggest moves by acquiring the all India distribution rights for the first part of Ramayana. The film is expected to become one of the most significant theatrical releases in Indian cinema.
AA Films continues to dominate the North Indian market for pan India blockbusters. Known for distributing Hindi versions of Baahubali, KGF, Pushpa and Kantara, the company has expanded its portfolio with Yash’s Toxic. Reports also suggest that AA Films has secured the Hindi distribution rights for Prabhas’ upcoming film Fauzi.
PVR INOX Pictures’ upcoming lineup includes a mix of Hollywood films, regional cinema, Korean concert movies and Hindi releases, giving audiences a diverse theatrical experience. Its schedule includes international films such as The Magic Faraway Tree, Onslaught, Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour: Live from Paris, Fall 2, The Uprising, Runner, Shaun The Sheep: The Beast Of Mossy Bottom and Primetime.
PVR INOX will also distribute Bengali film Winkle Twinkle, Korean concert movie Neo City: The Redline and Hindi film Vibe. Some other ventures entering the competition are the South India-based Red Giant Movies and Sree Venkateswara Creations, owned by producer Dil Raju.
With films like Ramayana, King, Toxic and several regional and international projects lined up, India’s theatrical distribution ecosystem is set for an intense battle for audiences.
