Director’s Lack of Clarity on Run Time Is Hurting

Lately, the egos of Telugu young directors or their lack of clarity about their own films are causing significant harm to both the films and the producers.

We’ve witnessed how director Vivek Athreya of Nani’s “Ante Sundaraniki” argued in support of the film’s lengthy run time, which ultimately proved damaging. Similarly, Shiva Nirvana recently directed a simple and familiar love story “Kushi,” but failed to judge that a shorter, more crisp run time could have garnered a better response.

Now, turning to the Dasara release “Tiger Nageswara Rao,” director Vamsee initially compared the film to lengthy blockbusters like “RRR” and “Arjun Reddy,” insisting that his film demands such a long run time.

Today, post release they decided to trim a good 20 minutes from the film’s run time. While this adjustment may not have completely changed the fate of the film, it highlights the director’s lack of judgment regarding unnecessary footage.

Those on the production side, who are investing their money, should be more vigilant when dealing with excessive run times. Unfortunately, they also seem to lack the necessary judgment.
