A day after Tamil Nadu Government allowed 100% occupancy in theaters, the Telugu film producers council put up the same request to the Governments of both the Telugu States. TFPC has written a letter to the Governments for an increase in the occupancy of seats in Cinema Theatres and Multiplexes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from 50% to 100%.
The increase is needed since the theater managements are not able to meet the necessary expenditure for maintenance of theaters and therefore incurring losses, they wrote in the letter. It has to be seen what the Governments decided about it ahead of Sankranthi Releases.
Medical Experts say that Theatres are closed and air-conditioned spaces that could lead to the spread of the virus. People, unlike the other places, had to sit there for a prolonged time which can be a perfect recipe for a disaster.
Reacting to Tamil Nadu allowing 100% Occupancy, Faheem Younus, Chief of Infectious Diseases, University of Maryland UCH says, “Cinema theaters are poorly ventilated, indoor, crowded, prolonged exposure settings. I cringe at the thought of opening theaters without complete control over the viral spread. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid”.
