Erra Bassu insults village folks!

Erra Bassu insults village folks!‘Erra Bassu’ which was released on November 14 received mixed reviews. While some of the reviewers felt that veteran director Dasari made a film that has touched the emotional aspects which are rare in the present society, a few others felt that the fillm’s slow pace and the way of narration doesn’t cater to the sensibilities of today’s audiences.

The fate of the movie will be decided within a couple of days though. But the way Dasari portrayed the character of a naive and pure at heart villager seems to have won for the director applause for bringing back the values which are rarely seen in the contemporary films. In one of the scene Dasari will be seen bathing and washing clothes under a water fountain.

Ofcourse the above said scene portrays the character’s innocence to the ways of the urbane life. But are the villagers so stupid really? Being innocent is different from being stupid. The way Dasari makes a fool of himself in the city seems more stupid than naive. In reality, village folks have more common sense and life skills because at very young age they get exposed to many hardships in life.

Many scenes in ‘Erra Bassu’ irk the audience who can find the logic missing while making Narayana’s character seem more stupid than naive. This is what the well educated and urban folks’ perception of village folks who are in reality more clever in handling situations. What makes the difference is their way of dressing and speaking. Hope our film makers take a cue out of this and stop this unreal perceptions about people from rural areas.
