The Andhra Pradesh government has announced an allocation of Rs 37 crore to 17 districts for emergency relief and precautionary measures ahead of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu.
According to the funding details released by the state government, six districts expected to face a greater impact, Nellore, Prakasam, Markapuram, Bapatla, Guntur and Krishna, have been allocated Rs 3 crore each, totalling Rs 18 crore.
Another Rs 16 crore has been allocated to eight districts, with Eluru, East Godavari, West Godavari, NTR, Palnadu, Tirupati, Chittoor and Nandyal receiving Rs 2 crore each.
The remaining Rs 3 crore has been distributed among Kadapa, Sri Sathya Sai and Annamayya districts, with each receiving Rs 1 crore.
District collectors have been instructed to use the funds for immediate relief operations, including evacuating people from flood-prone areas and arranging temporary rehabilitation centres.
The allocations can also be used to provide drinking water, food, milk, medical camps and sanitation facilities for people affected by the cyclone.
The government has permitted emergency repairs to damaged roads and irrigation infrastructure. Funds can also be used to arrange backup generators, candles and other essential supplies during power disruptions.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has warned that Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu is likely to cross the South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur, south of Ongole, between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
Authorities have been advised to remain alert as heavy rainfall, strong winds and possible flooding could disrupt normal life across several coastal and inland districts.
The advance allocation is intended to help district administrations respond quickly to emergencies and ensure that essential services remain available during the cyclone.
