A few years ago, Deepika Padukone held the throne as Bollywood’s undisputed queen, dominating the industry from 2013 to 2018 with blockbusters like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Happy New Year, Piku, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmaavat, showcasing her versatile talent.
Since 2020 she has been facing a dull phase in her career. The only blockbuster she had in recent years was Pathaan and even in that film, she had limited screen time and more emphasis was on skin show.
In recent times when one thinks about Deepika Padukone and her roles in Gehraiyaan (2022), Pathaan (2023), and Fighter (2024), what often comes to mind are the emphasis on her bikini and intimate scenes.
Deepika Padukone’s next is Kalki 2898 AD opposite Prabhas. Prabhas’ fans are already worried that people might be fed up with watching Deepika Padukone in skimpy dresses and performances she hasn’t been able to deliver. Mahesh Babu fans are also not very happy if she gets cast opposite Mahesh in SS Rajamouli’s next. So is Deepika’s time over?
Certainly not!
Deepika is a very talented actress with looks that can still create a furor on the big screen. It’s just that she hasn’t been getting roles that justify her talent. Her pairing with Prabhas is expected to be a treat for the audience as both are tall and have a terrific screen presence. Their chemistry would be fresh and might turn out to be the USP of the film.
As of now, Deepika is still an asset for a pan-world film like ‘Kalki 2898 AD’. No other actress in the country right now could be a better choice for a film as huge as Kalki other than Deepika.
