Ravi Teja’s Irumudi, directed by Shiva Nirvana and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, appears to be a film that doesn’t belong to one single genre.
What begins as an emotional family drama gradually ventures into the worlds of action, suspense and thriller-like tension before returning to its emotional core.
Director Shiva Nirvana believes the film’s emotional foundation allows him to explore darker and more unexpected situations without making the narrative feel disconnected.
“I started from the father-daughter relationship. That emotion is driving everything. Whatever the intensity, whatever the darker space or unexpected setup I have taken, it is completely embedded in the emotion of the father and daughter,” he explains.
That emotional thread becomes particularly important as the screenplay changes its tone. Shiva Nirvana says the film essentially starts off as a family drama, slowly enters an unexpected space, begins to resemble a thriller and eventually culminates in an emotional experience.
“I wanted the audience to experience this emotional journey with fear, tension and total seriousness,” he says.
The director’s confidence lies in the fact that the genre shifts are not random. Every turn is anchored to the protagonist’s emotional journey.
The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on the 21st of this month. Before that, the film’s trailer will be launched on August 12 in Bhimavaram.
