York Cinemas, the Canadian exhibitor for Jailer 2, issued a press note yesterday blaming North America distributors Shloka Entertainments and its Canada partner, Prathyangira Cinemas, for withholding the KDMs needed to continue screenings.
However, sources familiar with the distributor side tell M9 that York screened the film in Canada for a week but still has not signed its business agreement with Prathyangira, despite repeated requests. They also say York’s ₹1 crore financial obligation remains pending.
Shloka, the main distributor, ultimately has to report the collections to Sun Pictures. The sources say the unsigned agreement and pending ₹1 crore obligation are important context missing from York’s account of the dispute in this issue.
Business has basic rules: sign the agreement and honour your commitments. York’s press note blaming the distributors looks like a tactic to mislead Rajinikanth fans.
York Cinemas has faced other controversies in the past, several of which have been reported publicly.
