The shooting of Rajinikanth’s most anticipated sequel, Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is nearing completion. According to reports, only a few cameo portions and patchwork sequences are left to be filmed.
Since its announcement, Jailer 2 has generated massive buzz among audiences. It remains one of the most awaited films in Kollywood. However, the makers are yet to announce an official release date.
Earlier reports suggested that Jailer 2 was targeting a Diwali release. Fresh speculation now claims the makers are considering an October 15 release to capitalise on the extended Dussehra weekend.
If that happens, Dhanush‘s Om, which is currently scheduled to release on October 16, may reportedly be postponed to Diwali.
Simbu’s much-awaited film Arasan is also targeting a Diwali release. If Om is shifted to the festival weekend, Tamil cinema could witness a major box office clash between Om and Arasan.
These reports have sparked discussions among Dhanush’s fans. Many believe that a Diwali release may not be ideal because the pan-Indian film Ramayana is also expected to arrive during the same festive period.
According to fans, Om could lose a significant number of screens worldwide if it releases alongside Ramayana. They feel this could affect the film’s box office potential.
Some social media users have also criticised Rajinikanth, alleging that the possible change in Jailer 2’s release schedule is forcing other films to alter their plans. However, these reactions are based on online speculation.
Fans have also pointed to earlier instances where release dates reportedly changed because of Rajinikanth’s films. They cite Sivakarthikeyan’s Maaveeran, which was postponed following Jailer, and Suriya’s Kanguva, which was delayed after Vettaiyan.
These discussions have led to mixed reactions online. Some fans believe such release reshuffles create unnecessary competition and affect other big films in Kollywood.
As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding the release date of Jailer 2. It remains to be seen whether the makers choose the Dussehra slot and whether that leads to a Diwali clash between Dhanush’s Om and Simbu’s Arasan.
