
This week, Suriya’s epic film Kanguva and Varun Tej’s gangster drama Matka clashed at the box office.
Both are experiencing significant slowness on their first day (Thursday) at the U.S. box office.

Around 8 PM EST, Kanguva grossed only $47,388 in total across all languages. Of this sum, the Telugu version contributed a major portion, $23,587.
This trend is concerning given the high budget and the ambitious promotion by Suriya, who hoped the film would achieve pan-India success.

Varun Tej pinned his hopes on Matka to make a comeback after a series of back-to-back flops.
However, Matka collected only $9,177 by 8 PM EST, indicating how poor the trend is.

Overall, both films are posting negligible numbers on their opening day, and the trending doesn’t look promising.
