Mamitha Baiju Wasting Her Potential on Thankless Roles?

Mamitha Baiju recent films and career update

Mamitha Baiju made a smashing impact with her performance in Premalu. Her energetic and relatable screen presence connected well with today’s Gen Z audiences. After the film’s success in both Malayalam and Telugu markets, many believed her as the next big thing who could fill the void of talented heroines in the South.

However, her career since then has not matched that momentum.

Her latest role in Kara alongside Dhanush has raised serious doubts. Though cast as the hero’s wife, her role has very limited scope. Such roles offer little room to perform or leave an impact. Her fans are wondering what made her choose such a thankless role.

Even in her upcoming film Jana Nayagan, she is not the female lead. Even in successful projects like Dude, much of the credit went to Pradeep Ranganathan. Her earlier film Rebel with GV Prakash also flopped miserably at the box office, which again highlights her poor script choices after the success of Premalu.

Now, the focus shifts to her upcoming film Viswanath and Sons, where she takes on a bold role as a twenty-year-old girl in a relationship with a forty-year-old man played by Suriya. This kind of character can showcase range, but it also carries risk, as audience acceptance of such themes is unpredictable.

At present, she is working on projects like Irantu Vaanam and Bethlehem Kudumbam Unit. She has also been selective about new offers, reportedly turning down some Telugu projects due to script concerns. While this approach makes sense creatively, it also raises questions about what led her to choose films like Kara and Rebel.

Mamitha Baiju still has the talent and goodwill to move higher. But right now, her career is at a crossroads. The performance of her upcoming films, especially Viswanath and Sons, will likely decide whether she builds on her early promise or continues to struggle for consistent box office success.
