The year was filled with chaos, drama, weddings, and divorces. Especially the South Indian industry saw some grand celebrations as well as heartbreaking moments.
We found some adorable couples who we looked up to while witnessing some of our favourite bonds being broken. Some stars chose to be open about it while some remained silent.
Here are some shocking and heartbreaking divorces we witnessed this year.
1 – Jayam Ravi and Aarti Ravi
Jayam Ravi and Aarti tied the knot back in 2009 and were blessed with two sons. After 15 long years of marriage, the couple decided to part ways. In September, the actor issued a public statement on social media announcing the dissolution of their marriage.
Aarti drastically claimed that she was not consulted before announcing such an important decision in their lives.
There were also rumours about Jayam secretly dating a singer at that time. Later Jayam, Aarti, and the said singer dismissed the rumours.
2 – GV Prakash Kumar and Saindhavi
Popular singer and composer GV Prakash Kumar got married to his highschool sweetheart back in 2013. They both knew each other for 12 years before getting married and bonded over their love for music.
In 2020, they gave birth to a lovely daughter. But after 11 years, the couple announced their divorce. In May this year, they both dropped their official statements of the separation over social media.
3 – Yuva Rajkumar and Sridevi Byrappa
Kannada actor Yuva Rajkumar and his ex-wife Sridevi Byrappa’s divorce came as a shock to many.
The grandson of veteran actor Rajkumar, Yuva Rajkumar and Sridevi tied the knot in 2019. Since then everything seemed to go smoothly for the couple and they shared glimpses of their happy lives on social media as well.
However, in June, the actor filed for divorce on the grounds of cruelty at the hands of his wife.
Later, Sridevi took to the internet and condemned the actor for his behaviour.
4 – Bhamaa and Arun Jagadish
Malayalam actress Bhamaa got married to Arun in 2020. The couple knew each other from school days and were in love for quite a while. The wedding function was private with a lavish reception.
They were soon blessed with a daughter as well.
Around May this year, we heard buzz about the divorce but nothing was confirmed by the couple. Soon, Bhamaa strongly hinted at the separation with a social media post that talked about her being a single mother.
5 – AR Rahman-Saira Banu
World-renowned singer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu’s divorce came as a shock. The couple decided to end their bond of 29 years in 2024.
The singer did not explain the separation, keeping his private life private throughout.
