Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan has opened on a blockbuster note in the pan-Indian market. The film is absolutely rampant in the Hindi belt and it is pretty strong in the Telugu states as well. The Tamil openings are also pretty good.
Incidentally, Tamil cinema fans have started to drive their narrative now as they are extensively publicizing Jawan as a Tamil director’s film.
Usually, when the likes of RRR, Baahubali, and others fare well at the box office, Tamil fans gradually start a narrative that these films are South Indian cinema’s outings. This is mostly because Tamil cinema doesn’t have any proper pan-Indian successes.
Their films don’t get much patronage outside the Tamil markets. So they term other films as South Indian films to stake a claim for the credit.
But now that Jawan is doing pretty well, Tamil fans are seeing the opportunity to claim the credit and they have started a narrative that a Tamil director(Atlee) is shaking the country with Jawan now.
While Tamils didn’t have much pan Indian success, they now have a golden opportunity to promote Jawan as a Tamil director’s film and attribute this mania to Tamil cinema. They are expected to hit the top gear about the same in the near future.
