Tamil superstar Rajinikanth made a scorching comeback with Jailer which was a box-office blockbuster. But this is a thing in the past for Rajini now and the onus is on him to deliver another winner. His recent extended cameo film Lal Salaam was a washout at the box office. Things aren’t promising for Rajini’s next film Vettaiyan either.
But today, a much-anticipated announcement on Rajini’s Thalaivar 171 was made and the film will be directed by the red-hot Lokesh Kanagaraj. This project was announced today and it was also publicized that the title will be revealed on the 22nd of April.
Firstly, this is the kind of combination that Rajini needs at the moment after having worked with Aishwarya Rajinikanth and TJ Gnanavel.
Lokesh Kanagaraj is the most sought-after Tamil director at the moment and his coming together with Rajini is a very promising one.
The first look poster has a monochrome effect and this is perhaps an implication that Lokesh is sticking to the grey-shade action dramas that he has been making.
Needless to say, Lokesh’s recent works which are based on drugs and mafia are turning repetitive. This was seen in the case of Leo as the film couldn’t match the expectations as it was in the same zone as Lokesh’s recent film.
Lokesh will have to address this crucial aspect for his film with Rajinikanth and offer something fresh and exciting outside his tried and tested zone in order to further amplify the buzz and set the right expectations for the film.
