Declining footfalls and rising operating costs become biggest enemy’s for single screens. Now PVR INOX‘s ambitious expansion into Tier-III markets could make survival even tougher.
PVR The multiplex giant has announced its plans to launch 300 SMART Cinemas in smaller cities with ticket prices starting at around ₹175. The new format is designed to bring a multiplex-like movie experience to regions that have limited access to organized cinema. With 300 SMART Cinemas in the pipeline, PVR INOX is clearly looking beyond metros for its next phase of growth.
Now this move could pose a serious challenge to traditional single-screen theatres. If PVR INOX successfully executes its expansion, moviegoers may increasingly choose the comfort and technology of SMART Cinemas over older single-screen theatres.
If the strategy succeeds, it could reshape the cinema exhibition landscape in India’s smaller towns and redefine the competition for single-screen operators.
