Sandeep Reddy Vanga announced today that his upcoming film Spirit, starring Prabhas, will begin shooting by the end of this month. Staying true to his method, he has already finished writing the dialogues and background score to lock in the film’s rhythm before filming.
Vanga’s working style draws comparisons with SS Rajamouli, as both are now considered India’s top commercial filmmakers. Each delivers big-scale blockbusters that can easily cross the Rs. 1000-crore mark, but their creative pressures are vastly different.
Rajamouli faces enormous expectations with every project. After Baahubali and RRR, which set global benchmarks and even brought home an Oscar, his next film—tentatively titled Globetrotter with Mahesh Babu—must live up to world-class standards and international buzz.
Vanga, on the other hand, enjoys the freedom of grounded expectations. His audience only wants bold emotions, strong characters, and a spicy mix of action and drama. He doesn’t have to redefine Indian cinema; he just has to connect with today’s youth.
Though often called the second most bankable director after Rajamouli, the gap between them remains huge. Vanga has made only two films so far, both massive hits that shaped pop culture with raw emotion and fearless storytelling rooted in love and family.
In short, Rajamouli must keep raising India’s cinematic standards for the world. Vanga only needs to entertain his audience with passion and intensity. Spirit doesn’t have to be monumental—it just needs to strike the right chord, and fans will embrace it.
