Filmmakers Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Ram Gopal Varma were the latest guests on Jagapathi Babu’s popular Zee5 show Jayammu Nischayammu Raa.
During the episode, both directors praised each other’s work. However, it was Ram Gopal Varma’s critique of Sandeep Vanga’s 2023 blockbuster Animal that caught the internet’s attention.
Varma began by applauding Animal for breaking away from typical storytelling. He appreciated the film’s bold take on morality and its striking visual presentation. According to him, it redefined how commercial cinema can challenge conventional thinking.
He also mentioned the film’s slow narrative pace. While many viewers found it hard to sit through, Varma felt the pacing added to the film’s unexpected emotional intensity.
Still, he wasn’t entirely convinced by one key part of the movie the father-son relationship between Anil Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor’s characters.
Varma admitted that this dynamic felt emotionally confusing to him. He found it hard to understand why the lead character expressed such deep love for his father despite the troubled relationship shown on screen.
He further pointed out that the film lacked a crucial scene from the father’s point of view. This, he felt, weakened the emotional core of the story and limited the audience’s connection to that part of the plot.
While Animal impressed him overall, Varma concluded that this emotional gap was its only major shortfall. He praised Vanga’s originality but remained critical of how the father-son bond was portrayed.
