Ramayana, one of the most ambitious Indian films ever made, is gearing up for a massive global release. Taking its promotions beyond the Indian market, the makers have now unveiled an English version of the film’s trailer.
Instead of simply dubbing, the makers have used AI technology to create a more immersive viewing experience allowing international audiences to engage with the characters and emotions.
Now this move has sparked an interesting discussion: Can the English version of Ramayana help overseas Indians reconnect with their cultural roots?
For many second and third generation NRIs, English is their primary language. By presenting Ramayana in English with natural-looking AI-assisted lip sync, the makers are making the story more accessible to younger audiences raised outside India.
Of course, a film alone cannot define or restore someone’s cultural identity. However, it can serve as a gateway. For many young NRIs who have grown up away from India, Ramayana could become an opportunity to explore one of the country’s greatest epics in a language they are most comfortable with.
