Why expectations are high for Ramayana
Mythological subjects have managed to leave an impression on the audience over the last few years. Most of them are easily working at the box office without heavy promotions.
Back in 2025, Mahavatar Narsimha was an unexpected hit, despite being an animated film, and it is already being developed into a franchise. The Gujarati film Laalo also received a similar response. Two of Teja Sajja’s films, Hanu-Man and Mirai, have also been praised for the connection of the storyline to Indian mythology.
A few months ago, Suriya’s Karuppu also marked a comeback for the superstar, alongside doing an outstanding business at the box office. Currently, Hanuman Ansh is pulling audiences, with multiplexes replacing the shows of Toxic with Vishal Chaturvedi’s movie, which is based on Neem Karoli Baba. It is also one of the most surprising and unexpected success at the box office for this year.
Amid this, the attention has turned towards Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. With two more months left for release, netizens are eagerly waiting to hear the main soundtrack, considering the fact that the makers have not opted for any major cinematic liberties and are staying true to the essence of Valmiki’s Ramayana.
Early reports claimed that the movie won’t have songs like other mythological films, which means that the makers have planned something different this time. Trade experts shared their opinion by saying that music always plays an important role in the success of any film, and this is going to be more relevant in the case of Ramayana.
Since mythological films are doing so well at the box office, a majority wants Ramayana to work bigger than expected. Although the trailer has received a mixed response, the stardom of Ranbir Kapoor and the hype generated by the promotional materials over the last few months are expected to pull in the audience.
But the one thing that could be risky for the makers is the addition of something that might hurt the sentiments of the viewers. Netizens reacted on social media by saying that the producers should recheck everything before bringing anything to the audience since one wrong move can bring big trouble.
Ramayana has been made on a big budget of Rs. 4,000 crores, and the movie will need a strong start followed by large numbers on all days of the week worldwide to survive for a long time. Nothing much can be predicted until the advance booking starts. Let’s wait and see what happens.
