Vijay Deverakonda’s Rana Baali has been locked for a September 11 release for quite some time now. The makers officially announced the date months ago and have been slowly building the film’s buzz through unofficial leaks and updates.
Directed by Shyam Singha Roy fame Rahul Sankrityan and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, Rana Baali is one of Vijay Deverakonda’s biggest films to date. Reports suggest the period action drama has been mounted on a budget exceeding Rs. 100 crores.
However, the film has now landed in an unexpected box-office situation.
The makers of Karthi’s Sardar 2 have officially announced September 10 as the release date, bringing the two films face-to-face with just a one-day gap.
The clash has immediately become a talking point among movie lovers. It involves two heroes who are badly in need of a solid comeback.
Vijay Deverakonda has been chasing a genuine hit for several years now, while Karthi’s recent theatrical outings like Vaa Vaathiyaar have been disasters. Sardar remains one of the biggest successes of his career after Kaithi, making the sequel one of his most important projects.
If both films stick to their current dates, they could affect each other in different markets.
In the Telugu states, Rana Baali naturally enjoys the home advantage. However, Karthi also commands a loyal Telugu audience, and his films usually receive good theatrical support if well made, which could lead to theatre-sharing issues.
Similarly, in Tamil Nadu, Sardar 2 will dominate, making Vijay Deverakonda’s film face stiff competition. Rana Baali is positioned as a pan-India film, so revenue from other languages is also crucial to recover the high investment.
For Rana Baali, there is another concern.
Reports suggest the film is still in an important phase of production, with considerable post-production work remaining. Since it is a period film with extensive VFX and technical work, the makers will need sufficient time not only to complete the film but also to market it properly.
Will Rana Baali actually make it on September 11?
There are still nearly three months left, and release dates often change if post-production demands more time. If that happens, the clash could be avoided altogether.
For now, fans of both heroes are closely watching the situation.
