Sara Arjun is reportedly being considered as the female lead in Ram Charan’s RC17, directed by Sukumar. The film is expected to begin with a pooja ceremony on October 25 or 26, with regular shooting likely to start a few weeks later.
However, the reported casting has already raised questions among a section of fans.
Sara Arjun is beautiful and talented, but many feel she looks too young to be paired opposite a Tier-1 star like Ram Charan. Fans are also questioning whether she has the charm, screen presence and aura required to stand beside a star of his stature.
Even in Dhurandhar, her role was limited. She performed well in a couple of scenes, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wondering whether she can pull off a full-fledged heroine’s role opposite Ram Charan.
The bigger concern is Ram Charan’s recent on-screen chemistry with his heroines. His pairing with Kiara Advani in Game Changer and his combination with Pooja Hegde in Acharya were extremely bad. His chemistry with Janhvi Kapoor in Peddi also got trolled heavily for various reasons.
Now, the responsibility falls on Sukumar.
Unlike many commercial directors, Sukumar gives considerable importance to the heroine’s character in the screenplay. His female leads are often crucial to the emotional depth and narrative of his films. Simply casting a beautiful actress isn’t enough. The character must have substance, and the chemistry with the hero must work on screen.
That is where the real challenge lies with Sara Arjun. Can Sukumar present her in a way that makes audiences accept her opposite Ram Charan? Can he create the kind of chemistry that has been missing from Ram Charan’s recent films?
The casting may work if the character, styling and screenplay are strong enough. But until that happens, fans will remain skeptical.
RC17 has a lot riding on it, especially for Charan and Sukumar will have to get this casting choice right.
