Sai Pallavi has opened up about her experience working on Aamir Khan’s Ek Din, admitting that she personally felt she may not have been the right fit for the role. Her comments come after she faced trolling on social media following a promotional event for the film in Mumbai last month.
During the event, Sai Pallavi struggled to speak fluently in Hindi while addressing the audience, which triggered severe backlash online. Some users even questioned her suitability to play Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana.
In a recent interaction on the Aamir Khan Talkies YouTube channel, Sai Pallavi revealed that she had shared her doubts directly with Aamir Khan after watching the film’s premiere. She said she felt “miscast” and believed the character may have suited someone more energetic and naturally flamboyant. According to her, a fresher personality could have brought a different charm to the role.
Despite those doubts, Sai Pallavi explained that she chose the project because she wanted to work on something lighter after doing several emotionally intense films. She said Ek Din reminded her of the Hollywood romantic drama Before Sunrise, a film she personally loves, and she was drawn to its simple and warm emotional tone.
Her co-star Junaid Khan, however, disagreed with her concerns and said he felt she was the right choice for the role.
The film itself received poor reviews, with some critics appreciating Sai Pallavi’s sincerity and commitment to the character while also feeling the writing did not support her performance.
Directed by Sunil Pandey, Ek Din is a remake of the Thai film One Day and is backed by Aamir Khan Productions. Despite the expectations surrounding the pairing of Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, the film has turned out to be a massive disaster at the box office, and it will struggle to even touch Rs. 10 crores in its lifetime, according to trade experts.
