The massive box office potential during the Sankranti festival every year pushes top stars, directors, and producers to target the same season. For Sankranti 2027, this race has already begun, with multiple big names quietly marking their territory well in advance.
However, it is important to realistically examine which projects can actually make it to that festive window. To begin with, director Anil Ravipudi is almost guaranteed to aim for Sankranti. It is an open secret in the industry that he never wants to miss this festival slot. Preparations are underway for an entertainer starring Venkatesh Daggubati. The film is going to be a multi-starrer, with the other hero being either Rana Daggubati, Karthi, or Fahadh Faasil. An official announcement is expected soon.
There is very little doubt about Anil Ravipudi’s ability to meet deadlines. He is known for his super-fast shooting pace, simple production requirements, and stories that do not heavily depend on VFX or exotic locations. This efficiency allows him to comfortably target festival releases without much risk.
On the other hand, the much-discussed gangster drama starring Chiranjeevi and directed by Bobby, to be produced by KVN Productions, faces delays. Issues such as the postponement of Jana Nayakudu and concerns over the high budget of Toxic have slowed progress. Until these matters clear up, shooting cannot begin. Given the scale and budget, the makers cannot rush this project casually. Additionally, Chiranjeevi must also allocate time for Vishwambhara promotions. This further complicates the schedule.
Meanwhile, industry insiders say that the film starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and directed by Gopichand Malineni is also eyeing the Sankranti slot. The team plans to start regular shooting soon. Interestingly, reports suggest that the story has shifted from a period setup to a gangster drama.
As for Nagarjuna Akkineni, his chances appear slimmer. He is currently working on his 100th film under director R. Karthik, which is expected to release this year. Unless unexpected delays occur, he is unlikely to enter a crowded Sankranti clash with his contemporaries.
The debate around the Sankranti 2027 box office clash is only expected to grow stronger in the coming days.
