Actor Shivaji has spoken about the controversy that erupted after his earlier comments on women’s dressing went viral. The remarks had drawn criticism and led to complaints at the time.
In a recent interview, Shivaji said he regrets using certain words during that interaction. He clarified that women should not be judged based on what they wear and admitted that he used two words that he should not have used.
“I have said this before. I never speak without control. I still do not understand why I spoke like that that day. Not all days are the same. I kept asking myself how I used those words. I went through mental stress. I could not sleep for three days,” he said.
He added that he has attended hundreds of press meets and debates over the years without losing control over his words. According to him, that particular day things went wrong and he regrets it.
Responding to another issue, Shivaji clarified that he never made personal remarks against Anasuya Bharadwaj. He said he barely knows her and has respect for her. He also stated that he believes men generally do not intentionally try to insult women.
Shivaji further revealed that when he appeared before the Women’s Commission, he was surprised to learn that some people known to him had filed a complaint. However, he said he would not disclose their names as he continues to respect them.
With this clarification, Shivaji attempted to close the chapter, stating that his intention was never to hurt or disrespect anyone.
