Today as Jyotika expands her pan-Indian appeal fans feel that she is betraying the industry she has come from. All of this happened when she was seen talking about her experience in the South Indian entertainment industry in an interview.
She opened up how the focus is usually on the male characters and women only get to play supporting roles or the dance numbers. She feels the storytelling there is not doing justice to women.

She revealed that after having kids at 28 she decided to stay away from many kinds of roles. She deliberately stuck to roles that she felt did her justice.
To this fans have been outraged – they feel that she is insulting South Indian films by saying this. Many reasoned that if a celebrity is not able to fill the theatres why would a producer trust them.

Many advised her husband Suriya who is a big star in his own lane to teach her basics of film business. They even said that marrying a North Indian woman might have been a mistake for Suriya.
Jyothika has taken up female led films in the past but the response has been bad. Some fans felt that she is trying to appease Bollywood viewers, when in fact Bollywood can be highly sexist and it is not like strong female leads have not emerged from South Indian cinema.
