With more big-budget films being made as pan-India projects, several A-list actors from the South are spending more time in Mumbai for shoots, meetings and promotions. Instead of staying in hotels every time they visit, many stars have started buying or renting luxury homes in the city.
From sea-facing apartments to massive penthouses, these properties show how deeply South Indian cinema has expanded into the Hindi market.
Ram Charan
Ram Charan was reportedly among the early South Indian stars to invest in Mumbai. He is said to have bought a luxury penthouse in Bandra in 2012, around the time he was working on the Hindi film Zanjeer.
The sea-facing property reportedly features modern interiors, smart-home technology and biometric security.
Allu Arjun
Allu Arjun is currently spending considerable time in Mumbai for Raaka. He has reportedly rented a luxury penthouse in Juhu for around Rs. 16 lakh per month on a three-year lease.
The five-bedroom home reportedly covers around 6,000 square feet and comes with a private plunge pool and parking space for four cars.
His growing presence in Mumbai also reflects how much the city has become part of the pan-India film business.
Prithviraj Sukumaran
Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran owns a duplex in Bandra. The property, spread across around 3,000 square feet, was reportedly purchased through Prithviraj Productions in 2024.
It also comes with four parking spaces.
Suriya and Jyothika
Suriya and Jyothika also established a Mumbai base in recent years. The couple reportedly purchased a luxury apartment of around 9,000 square feet in an exclusive gated community in Bandra in 2024.
Their move to Mumbai was not only connected to work. The couple also shifted from Chennai partly because of their children’s education.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu
Samantha Ruth Prabhu bought a three-bedroom apartment in Mumbai in 2023. Her decision came as she began spending more time in the city for OTT projects and films.
For actors working across multiple industries, having a permanent base can be far more convenient than constantly moving between hotels.
Atlee
It is not just actors who are investing in Mumbai.
Tamil filmmaker Atlee has reportedly bought a sea-facing apartment in Bandra. The property reportedly features private elevator access and large balconies.
Dhanush
Dhanush has also reportedly invested in Mumbai. The Tamil actor is said to have bought a home in the Atlantis Building in Lokhandwala Complex.
Yash
Yash has taken a slightly different route.
Instead of buying a property in Mumbai, the Kannada star reportedly purchased a beachfront property near Kihim Beach in Alibaug in May 2026. The property reportedly spans around 5,289 square meters and has private beach access.
It was reportedly purchased as a gift for his wife, Radhika Pandit.
The bigger picture is clear. Mumbai is becoming increasingly important for South Indian stars as their films expand beyond their home industries. With pan-India cinema now becoming the norm for the biggest stars, having a home or a regular base in Mumbai is no longer unusual.
For stars like Allu Arjun, Ram Charan, Yash and Suriya, Mumbai is slowly becoming much more than just another film city.
