Suriya and Venky Atluri’s Vishwanath & Sons has completed an impressive first weekend at the North America box office, grossing $1.59 million.
The film is distributed by Shloka Entertainments, a major and reputable distribution house known for planning releases that deliver strong runs in this market.
Interestingly, the Telugu version alone grossed $1 million, while the Tamil version collected $589K. Considering that the film was originally made in Tamil and dubbed into Telugu, the gap between the two versions is significant.
Had the Tamil version performed on par with Telugu, the overall numbers would have been phenomenal.
Shloka’s effective release strategy and ticket pricing helped the film post an impressive total by its first Sunday.
With the North America breakeven valued at around $1.8 to $1.9 million, the film should reach the mark soon. However, Friday’s performance will offer a clearer picture of its long-term potential.
With Irumudi arriving this week and Toxic releasing next week, Vishwanath & Sons will face competition from major new releases. Even so, the film has already delivered a much-needed and encouraging result in North America.
