Telugu audiences have always been receptive to good films. That is the reason why Tamil heroes like Surya, Rajinikanth, and Vijay have built themselves a good market here.
However, the Tamil market isn’t as receptive to Telugu heroes. There are occasions when Telugu films like RRR, Baahubali, Pushpa and others do well there but there is no stable market for our films there.
Like for instance, Leo did pretty well at the Tollywood box office. It got a start on par with a tier-2 Telugu hero film in the Telugu belt. This doesn’t usually happen with non-big event Telugu films in Tamil Nadu.
Perhaps, it is time for Telugu stars to set the ball rolling and focus on enhancing their market in Tamil Nadu.
The market that Tamil stars, barring Vijay, got here in the Telugu states is by releasing all their films and even promoting them here over many years. Vijay’s consistency of films and his combinations got him the market that he has in Telugu today.
As for Telugu stars, they do release their films in the Tamil belt, but the promotions are on the weaker note. They are entirely focused on the Hindi belt and not remotely as much on Tamil market. This needs to change if Telugu stars are to add Tamil market to their arsenal.
And for those complaining that the likes of Vijay and Rajini don’t come here to promote but why should Telugu stars go there, it comes down to the nature of the audience. Maybe Tamil crowds need more interactions and media coverage from Telugu stars to encourage these films. That’s one way to see it.
