Junior NTR’s Devara has opened to a good start and is holding well over the weekend.
The movie is a decent one-time watch, being a large-scale film unlike regular movies, but it has evoked mixed reactions. Besides the pros and cons of the content, NTR’s peculiar stardom is also a contributing factor.

When it comes to a Mass film, NTR sets the bar really high. Even the fans do not allow an excuse if the product is not completely satisfactory. That is the reason why it gets extremely difficult for NTR in the coming days.
When we look at directors these days, it is not easy to deliver a complete product. Even those who have recently directed event films have not produced an output that can be called a truly satisfying watch.

But then, even with not-so-complete products like Salaar, Kalki, Pushpa etc, the other heroes do not face this problem of mixed reactions.
The roots of this problem may be because of NTR’s career itself.

NTR as a Mass Hero in the initial years of his career delivered some extraordinary films like Aadi and Simhadri. The roots of the stardom he has today is in such films.
The problem is not just with Devara. We have seen many mass films suffer due to the same expectations after Aadi and Simhadri.
Back in those days, there were only hits or flops for NTR. There are no averages.
At one stage, the actor realized that and started doing films of different genres. He was largely successful in changing the mindset of the fans and the audience from those extreme reasons.
Films like Nannaku Prematho, Aravinda Sametha, and Janatha Garage did not suffer from this problem even though they are not perfect products as expected by the fans.
Everyone thought the problem was over until Devara came.
It looks the audience will have no problem if NTR attempts a film of a class genre or a film not completely mass but has a couple of good mass blocks. The expectations will be automatically set accordingly.
But when he attempts a complete mass film like Devara, fans and audience expect a perfect mass entertainer and there is no lenience if there is a deviation. That’s the reason for the mixed talk of Devara.
This problem will become an even bigger problem for NTR-Prashant Neel’s film. Because Devara is more only about NTR, the expectations will be even higher for Neel’s film due to the combination and hype of the project.
Probably, NTR may be the only star in Tollywood to have this problem and it is a very serious one.
