Tollywood has been the most successful film industry post lockdown. Starting from Sankranthi, every film that released went on to do well at the box office. The recently released Vakeel Saab‘s fate will be clear this week.
However, Tollywood is now stuck between a devil and a deep sea. This is because the second wave of Coronavirus is scaring filmmakers, and almost all films that were scheduled to release in the upcoming weeks have been postponed. Releasing them at a later time would mean that many films would clash at the box office, and the results would not be very satisfying for the filmmakers.
On the other hand, Tollywood filmmakers can also give the films for an early OTT release, which would be a more practical option. But exhibitors would not cooperate for an OTT release, which would be the main hurdle. Tollywood is now stuck in between being unable to explore a shorter theater window with an early OTT release.
It is now to be seen what all films will get an OTT release and what all films will wait until theatres become a safe option once again.
