Two senior superstars from South Indian cinema – Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi clashed at the box office this weekend as Jailer and Bholaa Shankar hit the theaters.
Coming to the USA box office, Rajini’s Jailer made the most of the last gasp hype it garnered and recorded a rare $1 million premiere for a commercial film.
Jailer’s 2-day tally is at an impressive $1.56 million and the film is clearly shining at the USA box office.
As for Bholaa Shankar, it got off to a stuttering start with $313K from the premieres. The low buzz has played a part in this subpar opening.
More concerning for Bholaa Shankar is the weak reviews and the cringe content – two factors that are fatal for a film’s run at the USA box office.
If this early trend is to go by, Rajini’s Jailer will have a strong weekend and it could well emerge as the primary choice for the South Indian folk there.
As for Bholaa, things look bleak and it has to be seen where the film will end up over the weekend, particularly so, given the competition release with Jailer which opened to better reviews comparatively.
