Toxic Flops, Tollywood Gets the Blame?

Yash’s Toxic sparks audience debate

The Toxic debate has taken an unexpected turn. Instead of only discussing the film and its box office, some Kannada fans are now turning their frustration towards Telugu audiences.

A number of Kannada users on X are openly questioning the response the film received in the Telugu states. Their argument is simple. They feel Toxic was judged too harshly by Telugu audiences because it did not have the usual commercial elements expected from a big star film.

Some posts have gone much further, saying Telugu audiences made a good film look like a disaster. Others are comparing Yash’s treatment with how a Telugu hero would supposedly be received if a similar film was released in Karnataka.

This has brought the Kannada versus Telugu debate back into the conversation.

There is no doubt that Toxic has disappointed at the box office, especially considering its huge budget and the expectations around Yash after KGF. But a section of his fans seems to believe that the response in the Telugu market made the situation worse.

Of course, this is not the opinion of every Kannada fan. Many are simply accepting the result and discussing the film on its merits.

Still, the comments are getting enough attention to create a separate debate.

A film failing is one thing. Turning that failure into a fight between Kannada and Telugu audiences is another story altogether.
