The USA box office is set to see two new theatrical outings in the next few hours as two notable films, Agent and Ponniyin Selvan 2 are headed for their theatrical debut.
Agent is a proper action thriller and it does have the advantage of being one of the first actioners in the recent while. There’s the void for slick actioners and the onus is on Agent to make the most of the same.
Then there’s Ponniyin Selvan 2 which has the sequel advantage. The bookings are decent in Tamil but are underwhelming in other languages.
Usually, sequels enjoy humongous hype and anticipation as was the case with Baahubali 2 and KGF 2. But in the case of Ponniyin Selvan 2, this kind of mass hysteria is missing.
Agent features Akhil and Mammootty in the lead roles so there could be some anticipation in Malayalam along with the Telugu version, given the presence of the latter.
As for Ponniyin Selvan 2, it has several Tamil stars in the lead roles. It has to be seen how the film will end up in other languages.
Word of mouth will again play the decisive role for both these new notable theatrical outings.
