Vijay Sethupathi’s Tamil film commitments are now turning into a release-date headache for Puri Jagannadh. The actor is simultaneously associated with multiple projects, and the crowded Tamil release calendar is making it difficult for Puri Jagannadh and his team to lock a suitable release date for Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road.
The film was initially being planned for an August release. However, with several of Vijay Sethupathi’s Tamil projects lined up for release, the makers have reportedly decided to postpone Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road rather than risk releasing it in a crowded window.
Vijay Sethupathi’s upcoming entertainers, including Train, Pisasu 2, Pocket Novel and Baththa, are expected to hit the screens over the next couple of months. With these films arriving back-to-back, finding a comfortable gap for Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road has become a major challenge.
The makers are particularly cautious about the Tamil market, where Vijay Sethupathi enjoys a strong following. Releasing two of his films too close to each other could affect the theatrical run and audience attention for both films. Hence, the team wants to avoid a situation where Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road gets overshadowed by another Vijay Sethupathi release.
At the same time, Puri Jagannadh is looking at the film as a Telugu-Tamil release and wants to ensure that it gets a proper theatrical window in both markets. Rather than rushing the film into theatres, the makers are now reportedly considering a December release.
For Puri Jagannadh, the challenge is therefore not just finding an available Friday. The team needs a date that gives Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road enough breathing space in Tamil Nadu while also allowing the film to make a strong impact in the Telugu market.
