Suriya has made a divine comeback with the Tamil film Karuppu, which has crossed Rs. 250 crores worldwide gross and is heading towards Rs. 300 crores. Despite average reviews, audiences accepted and embraced the film. More importantly, it has helped Suriya regain much-needed theatrical confidence after a long streak of flops stretching nearly a decade.
Now all eyes are on Suriya’s next film Vishwanath and Sons, produced by Sithara Entertainments and directed by Venky Atluri.
Trade discussions suggest the makers are currently evaluating two release windows: July 23 and August 14.
However, some trade observers feel both options carry challenges.
July may not provide enough breathing space after Karuppu’s successful run.
Tollywood’s much-anticipated Nani film The Paradise is scheduled to release on August 21 as of now. The film is carrying strong hype, and if Suriya’s film arrives on August 14, its run could get affected due to The Paradise. However, August 14 might still turn out to be a good date, as Nani’s The Paradise is reportedly poised to get postponed due to production delays.
Some trade experts reportedly feel October 2 could emerge as the smarter option.
The reasoning is simple. Star-driven films often benefit from healthy spacing. A gap of nearly three months between two big films from the same actor allows audience excitement to rebuild organically while preventing market fatigue. Suriya cannot afford to deliver a flop now after regaining his box office momentum, especially due to a poor release window.
Venky Atluri’s films generally depend heavily on emotional storytelling and word-of-mouth strength rather than purely opening-day numbers. Because of that, release positioning could become even more important.
For now, no official date has been finalized. But after Karuppu’s comeback success, expectations surrounding Vishwanath and Sons have clearly become bigger. We have to see what the makers eventually decide.
