The Pan-India trend has been growing across the Indian film industry, with leading stars increasingly choosing larger-than-life entertainers designed to appeal to audiences across the country, regardless of language barriers.
Traditionally, most Pan-India films are shot in one or two Indian languages and dubbed into several others. In recent years, however, some of the biggest stars have started looking beyond the Indian market, aiming to take their films to a global audience.
Several movies have been announced with plans for releases in English and other international languages, but they have largely been shot in Indian languages and later dubbed. Rocking Star Yash’s much-awaited Toxic, however, takes a different approach, as the film has been shot in both Kannada and English.
Yash has maintained that the story has the potential to connect with audiences beyond India. He has also spoken about his tendency to turn challenges and doubts into motivation. Whenever someone tells him that he cannot do something, he takes it as a challenge and strives to prove them wrong. That mindset appears to have played a role in his decision to shoot Toxic in English as well.
More importantly, Yash strongly believes that Toxic has the potential to transcend geographical boundaries. The film’s narrative style and visual treatment have a distinct international flavour, with the promotional material showcasing a scale and aesthetic that draw comparisons with Hollywood-style storytelling. The team has also taken considerable time to bring the film to the screen, with the aim of getting every aspect right.
Yash is returning after the phenomenal Pan-India success of the KGF franchise, naturally placing enormous expectations on Toxic. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film has already generated strong interest with its trailer and promotional material, particularly for its grand scale, striking visuals and impressive ensemble cast.
The big question now is whether Yash’s ambitious English-language experiment will help Toxic connect with audiences beyond India and establish itself as a truly global Indian film. The answer will become clear once the production venture of KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations reaches audiences on the 26th of this month.
