On the very same occasion in 2003, Chandra Babu was attacked by Maoists near Alipiri while he was going to give Pattu Vastrams to the Lord. Chandra Babu and the leaders along with him were grieviously injured but just managed to save their lives in the landmine blasts. Many including Chandrababu believe it as a rebirth for him. The incidents that followed are even painful for the party as well as its fans. Chandrababu hoping the attack sentiment to work went for early elections but lost to the Congress.

That defeat paved way for 10 years in opposition. TDP was severely battered losing its key leader of Rayalaseema, Paritala Ravi and unable to manage the party withstanding Late YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s Akarsha program. YSR lost his life unfortunately which changed the dynamics of AP politics. The state division agitation reached its peaks with nominated Chief Minister doing very little to saddle them. Chandrababu is attempts to keep the party alive in both the regions only further troubled the party then. Adding to that YS Jagan started his own party and cruized to victories in almost all the bielections that came his way. On the other side, KCR led TRS party cruized in Telangana destroying TDP. Finally the state was divided and while TDP Telangana wing is still fighting blues, Chandrababu with his historic padayatra cruized to a landslide win in Andhra Pradesh and is now shouldering the responsibility of the state which do not even have a capital.
