Amaravati: Farmers With Assigned Lands Bailed Out

Amaravati farmers get patta land relief

The Andhra Pradesh government has given major relief to Amaravati farmers holding assigned lands. A Cabinet decision converted their returnable plots into patta lands. Farmers who gave up land under pooling will now have transferable ownership, ending years of uncertainty.

Earlier, the tag of “assigned” prevented the sale of returnable plots. Farmers raised this issue with the government, which prompted CM Chandrababu Naidu to approve the patta status. Following the Cabinet meeting, the municipal chief secretary issued orders confirming the change.

With patta lands, farmers can now sell their plots. However, banks are still reluctant to accept these lands as collateral for loans. Farmers have once again approached the government to resolve this problem, seeking easier access to credit.

CM Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Narayana are expected to look into the issue soon. Farmers hope that the government will take steps to ensure that banks recognise patta lands as valid security, bringing full relief to those who sacrificed land for Amaravati.
