It is almost confirmed that the state capital of Andhra Pradesh will come some where near Krishna and Guntur districts. Land acquisition is a major challenge here for the government. And at the same time, government suspects foulplay by YSR Congress legislators of the region. It is said that in order to create a scarcity of government land, YSRCP MLAs are liberally allotting house sites to their followers in the last couple of months. AP government officials fear that that 14 assembly segments in the capital region, five are represented by YSR Congress Party legislators where they could generously distribute lands.
Sensing the foulplay, Government has instructed the collectors of Krishna and Guntur districts to direct tehsildars not to sanction even a single house site to poor families until further instructions. They have even been told not to clear the already-approved files which have been pending for the past few months.
In general, the below Poverty Line (BPL) families are sanctioned house sites at Tehsildars level after endorsement from the assembly constituency-level land assignment committee headed by local legislators. However there are YSR Congress MLAs at crucial places like Nuzvidu and Mangalagiri. These places are among the front runners for the state capital.
