Tamil Nadu: BJP Wooing Vijay, What’s The Plan?

The BJP has been working hard to expand its presence in South India, though success has been limited so far. Since the 2024 general elections, the party has shifted its focus to Tamil Nadu, where Assembly elections are due in 2026. Reports suggest that a major political development could take place in the state soon.

Both the BJP and the ruling DMK have begun preparing for the polls. Actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay, who enjoys a massive following among Tamil audiences, has entered the political arena with his party, TVK. Though Vijay has publicly said he will contest alone, national media reports on Saturday hinted that the BJP is holding talks with him.

The DMK has cornered Vijay over the Karur stampede tragedy that claimed 41 lives, placing him in a politically sensitive position. Political observers believe the BJP may try to capitalise on this moment and bring Vijay’s TVK into the NDA alliance.

Tamil Nadu’s political circles are now watching closely to see whether Vijay will go solo or join hands with the BJP. Analysts say that if the BJP manages to secure TVK’s support, it could reshape the political landscape of South India.
