Center to add frills to social media!

section66 a on social mediaAfter striking off the Section 66A, the freedom in Social media is reportedly increased and has resulted in the spreading of malicious and defamatory messages online. The Supreme court expressed its concern over this trend and asked the center to come up with a new law to regulate the social media.

The apex court opined that there should be some frills to the freedom in social media. The court also clarified that Section 66A was quashed because it was not properly drafted and was vague. So the court asked the Parliament to bring a new law.

2014 has seen a steep increase in the Cyber Crime cases being registered in the city under Section 66A of the Information and Technology Act. Over 250 cases were registered in Hyderabad while not a single conviction is made during the same period. We hope the new law will be sensible as well as effective.
