Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan has shared that the Center is considering a Rs 323 crore proposal for coastal protection wall in Uppada. The present wall lost 12 mts during the past 5 years due to erosion.
Pawan Kalyan said that work will begin after final approvals are given. Uppada falls under Deputy CM’s Pithapuram constituency.
The Uppada wall will be a permanent solution for erosion problem. As large waves constantly hit the wall, the present wall has eroded 1.23 mts every year in three decades.
In 2017-18, the wall eroded 26.3 mts merging into the sea. Erosion of the wall has affected the livelihood of fishermen from Uppada and neighbouring villages. It has also left the roads damaged leading to traffic disruptions in the area.
Pawan Kalyan had written a letter to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) regarding the matter. The AP DM also took up the issue with the Union Home Ministry for a permanent solution.
Meanwhile, National Center for Coastal Research in Chennai has prepared a proposal for a permanent wall based on tetrapods.
