Aarogya Sri floated by Late YS Rajasekhara Reddy benefited many poor people but then the scheme has another side as well. The scheme became a boon for Private Hospitals as they charged exorbitant bills for no reason and extracted them from the state exchequer.

But then Aarogya Sri is a major contributor for YSR’s Popularity back then. And now, Chandrababu Naidu government has dropped this scheme and replaced it with another scheme ‘Aarogya Mitra’. The scheme charges a premium of 100 per year for a medical insurance cover of Two Lakhs.
Unlike Aarogya Sri, Aarogya Mitra is a comprehensive scheme for all the people irrespective of their financial status. If it is rightly implemented, it will benefit everyone and will bring more laurels to Chandrababu like the case of YSR.
Health Care for all is a good scheme which is more of a necessity to the people than a luxury or a freebie. Such schemes should be implemented across the country to help people battle the increasing health problems and the subsequent medical costs which are already beyond the range of the common man.
