The Cockroach Janta Party is back in the spotlight after its earlier movement at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The prolonged youth-led agitation ended after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned, which had been one of the protesters’ main demands.
Now, the Cockroach Janta Party has turned its attention towards Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has announced a nationwide agitation demanding Kumar’s resignation over allegations concerning electoral rolls and the functioning of the Election Commission.
The latest campaign is set to begin with a Jail Bharo Andolan at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on October 2. The CJP has also announced plans to expand its agitation to other cities across the country.
However, Mumbai Police said permission could not be granted for the proposed gathering at Shivaji Park due to restrictions linked to the area’s silence zone status. Organisers were advised to consider an alternative venue and seek the required permission.
Meanwhile, a separate protest against Gyanesh Kumar was planned at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Gandhi Jayanti. Delhi Police denied permission for the gathering and increased security across parts of New Delhi ahead of the proposed demonstration.
Authorities also introduced traffic restrictions and security measures around Jantar Mantar. Several student, activist and political groups have called for demonstrations demanding Gyanesh Kumar‘s resignation over concerns related to electoral rolls and the functioning of the Election Commission.
The latest developments have once again brought the Cockroach Janta Party into national attention. After its earlier agitation over education and examination issues, the movement is now seeking to build momentum around concerns related to India’s electoral system.
